The only thing that is predictable about being a mom is that it is unpredictable.
Sometimes I get really jazzed about an idea. I have a big plan for my day! I’m going to get shit done!
And then ‘momming’ happens.
Someone gets pink eye and has to go to the pediatrician, or breaks a full length mirror into the bathroom sink. Someone barfs in their bed, or drops an egg on the floor or some other such nonsense that you couldn’t and wouldn’t ever have written in your calendar.
When you are a working mom, you have no choice but to pivot.
Sometimes, all day you are changing your plans. It can be pretty defeating and irritating when you have BIG PLANS that go awry. Even if your big plans are simply to sit down and write your blog posts for the month. Or plant your flowers before they die. Or wake up early to exercise and still get to work on time.
Whatever thing you got excited to have time to do, you might not have time to do it because life with kids is unpredictable. Taking a breath, letting things go, and moving past your big plan for the day is inevitable and sometimes necessary.
Don’t be too hard on yourself when you’re feeling discouraged. It’s not easy to embrace the beautiful chaos of motherhood. But with some mental agility and grace, you’ll find that you’re able to complete at least some of your BIG PLANS, (after cleaning up the shattered mirror of course.)

P.S. I speak from experience with my own unpredictable mom life, as evidenced by the pic of the mirror in the sink from 6 years ago. I didn’t think to take a photo when someone barfed in their bed, for obvious reasons.
